As we all know, sun damage is one of the main causes of skin ageing . During the launch, Consultant Dermatologist Dr. Mark Tang addressed this concern by highlighting some little known facts about sun damage.
He told the audience that besides UV rays, visible light and near infrared rays are also responsible for causing skin ageing. Sunblocks are efficient at blocking out UV rays but have limited ability to block out visible light and near infrared rays. Also, studies have shown that most of us simply do not apply enough sunblock for it to do the job properly.
In view of that, he advised that one should not rely on topical and oral sunblock to reduce sun damage as it gives us a false sense of security. According to Dr Tang, we should adopt total lifestyle changes such as intentionally avoiding sun exposure by staying in the shades and by using umbrellas, hats etc. Of course, eating well, exercising and quitting cigarettes are also key factors in making one look and feel younger too.
Local celebrity, Jamie Yeo, who looked only 21 despite being 41, also shared her secret to staying young and beautiful. She said staying active and being happy are key factors to her youthfulness.
