LADY@LXG: KNEIPP MINERAL BATH SALTS

There is nothing more relaxing on a cold night or after a long day at the office than a good soak in a tub of warm, fragrant and relaxing bath salts (I personally can’t stand artificial scents as they are not healthy and can even cause migraines, so the fact that Kneipp uses natural oils is a big plus).

Kneipp Mineral Bath Salts contain salt crystals that are generated from salt water that is pumped up 460 meters from an underground sea in Germany. The water is boiled off using Europeʼs last existing traditional pan method and the remaining salt is then infused with Essential oils. This process allows the Kneipp Mineral Bath Salts to be created without chemical additives, remain free of modern pollution and naturally rich in minerals.
These salts are a great way to detoxify, as the salts bind protein on the surface of the skin and form a layer that prevents the dissipation of heat from the body. The salt then promotes perspiration and the bodyʼs toxins are eliminated in sweat. This opens the pores and allows the body to absorb minerals and trace elements (Rosemary and Juniper are specific herbs that promote the detoxification process). The bath salts come in Lavender, Juniper and Eucalyptus.
Kneipp bath salts retails exclusively at GUARDIAN PARAGON at only $3.90 per 60g sachet

HERBAL BATH LAVENDER
Lavender is one of my favourite herbs and a definite must have when I feel stressed or am unable to sleep. Known for its balancing effects, this aroma intensive bath treatment helps to combat mental and physical fatigue. Through the relaxing effect of the Lavender herb, it is most helpful when you feel nervous or itching which could be a symptom of our over-stressed and overly-busy lives. The balancing effect of Lavender can also be very energizing.

Use one capful of Kneipp Herbal Bath Oil for each bath. For best results, bathing time should never exceed 15 to 20 minutes. Most Kneipp bath therapy starts with water that is body temperature or slightly warmer (98.6°–104°F).

Sleep inducing, relaxing baths should be a little cooler, (97°–98°F) and it is advisable to take a warmer bath (102°–104°F) with the onset of a cold or when suffering from rheumatism.

According to Kneipp, we should not bathe (soak in the tub) if you have a fever, and baths that are too hot put a strain on the circulatory system. A foot bath or partial bath is recommended when suffering from cardiac conditions or cold and flu. After a bath, replenish skin by massaging the body with a hydrating lotion or oil. This helps the skin to regain its natural pH balance and form a protective layer.

I also use half a capful bath oil in my air purifier in  both my living room and bed room daily and it leaves the house smelling absolutely divine. A definite treat to the sense after a hard day at work.
The bath oil retails at $24.90 and is only available at GUARDIAN AT PARAGON

LADY@LXG: A Natural Solution for Dry Skin

"The Body is a great machine and it knows how to take care of itself. I think more often than not, the things we do to our skin or our bodies can hold it back from doing its proper job."
Julia Roberts.

If you are a frequent reader of this blog you will be aware that I am a huge fan of Kneipp. I absolutely love all their products. And you will also know that I have rather dry skin, probably due to all those showers I keep taking (3 - 4 a day, yes really) since I have an aversion to smelling less than fresh.

Anyway, lets move away from my neuroses and focus instead on my latest Kneipp product of choice, which is their Almond Blossom range, created specifically for those with dry and sensitive skin.
The Kneipp® Almond Blossom Body Oil is made of almond, sunflower and jojoba oils enhanced with vitamins A & E which help regenerate skin while also helping to protect it from harmful environmental aggressors. It has a delicate almost floral scent (no it does not smell of almonds), absorbs quickly, improves elasticity and leaves your skin feeling soft and silky and most importantly, not greasy. In fact, I use this oil every night now that I used up all my Jasmine and Argan oil. I have decided to alternate between the almond blossom and the jasmine and argan body oils, as they are both very light weight (the almond blossom is actually more light weight) smell lovely and keeps my skin silky smooth.

A 100 ML bottle retails at SGD 28.90

Kneipp® Almond Blossom Gentle Body Wash is specially formulated with natural plant-based ingredients for dry skin. If you like foaming washes, this is not for you. This body wash is lovely and perfect for someone like me who is constantly showering but doesn’t want their skin to dry out. it cleanses very gently but thoroughly. Rich almond and jojoba oils nourish the skin and help maintain its natural protective layer so skin feels clean, scented and soft.

The body wash which comes in a 200 ML tube retails at SGD 18.90

Kneipp® Almond Blossom Hand Cream I actually have a tube of this miracle hand cream in my kitchen, in both my toilets and beside my bed, so that I have no excuse not to moisturize my hands every time I wash them. Made with sweet almond oil, avocado oil, Panthenol (Provitamin B5), Bisabolol, Tocopherol (Vitamin E), it keeps hands and cuticles soft and scented! If you have brittle nails or rough hands, do give this hand cream a try. It really does work as well as much more expensive products that I have tried.

A 50ML tube retails at SGD 21.90

LADY@LXG: Answer to a Good Night's Sleep!

Finally, a cure for insomnia that actually works!

The worst thing about not being able to sleep, apart from the mind numbing tiredness that assails you the next day, is the swollen, slitty eyes that makes you look like you've been through a bit of a cry-a-thon - which of course is tremendously unattractive, and something that no amount of touch eclat can conceal.

My battle with insomnia has had me installing black-out-blinds to block out any and every bit of light, an eye mask that made my skin itch, (so that ended quite fast), and drowsy inducing anti-histamines as well as melatonin pills - but they all left my mind in a fog the next day, although my eyes did look less puffy, which is always a plus. But trying to sound semi-intelligent while conducting an interview or writing an article was near impossible with a befuddled brain, so I had to find a more realistic solution before I burst!
When I was at the very end of my tether, the lovely people at Kneipp sent me their Valerian and Hops Herbal Bath and Goodnight Tea. Pushing all skepticism aside, I brewed myself a cup while I soaked in a tub of warm scented blue water (Kneipp uses food colouring in their baths to give users a sensory experience).

I don’t think I have slept so soundly and for so long in a very long time and it was absolute bliss. I even woke up the next morning without the aid of the alarm, bright and ready to face the day's chores! (a rare occurrence indeed)

I now make it a nightly routine to drink a cup of Kneipp’s Goodnight Tea close to bed time (not too close though, as you will be interrupting your sleep emptying your bladder) and soaking my legs in the bath oil when I am too lazy to go the whole hog. So far, I have managed to clock at least seven hours a night or even eight on a good night when the cat doesn’t take it upon himself to blow his fishy breath into my face at dawn.

If you suffer from sleep issues or anxiety, give Kneipp’s Good Night tea and Valerian and Hops Herbal Bath a go. It worked for me and I believe it will work for you.

LADY@LXG: A Favourite Facial

As a former full time beauty editor and current freelance beauty writer, The Lady has spent almost a decade trying, testing and immersing herself in a variety of beauty products, procedures and treatments, which is why we have created a guest spot here at LXG for her to share her take on the wonderful but confusing world of beauty!

Any advice we can find about how to treat that special lady in our lives, is advice well received, so who better to turn to than someone who really understands what they want?

So for the time being, its out with the guys... Now its Lady to Lady...

A Much Needed Thirst Quencher for Parched and Dull Skin:

Ladies, what makes one facial stand out from the rest? The products used certainly make a difference and so does the ambiance of the spa, the deal breaker for me though, is the passion and skill of the facialist.

As a beauty editor and writer, and now of course, contributing beauty and fashion blogger, I have spent a good part of a decade lying prone on a multitude of narrow spa beds, having my face kneaded, squeezed, poked and stroked, so I think I am a fair judge of what makes a facial worth trying.

I have a few facials that I will review, which I could recommend to all of you out there. And today in particular, I’d like to share with you my experiences at Angelface Aesthetics, one of Sothys’ Contract Salons:
 SOTHYS HYDRADVANCE™ COSMECEUTIC PROGRAMME:

Due to a terrible diet and some unhealthy lifestyle habits (I don’t sleep much, I eat far too much chocolate and drink way more coffee than is healthy), my skin is dehydrated internally but oily on the outside and prone to congestion and breakouts. I have tried multiple products and treatments (yes, I know it would help if I just changed my lifestyle habits, but...) however most left my skin only temporarily hydrated and comforted.

When Jasmine from Sothys’ invited me over to try their new Hydradvance™ Cosmeceutic Programme, I jumped at the opportunity for a bit of a treat and mid-afternoon nap - mainly because I am a fan of Sothys’ products and have had a really good experience at Angel Face Salon in the past.

To understand my excitement, its important to comprehend what exactly sets this treatment apart from others. Inspired by genetic studies, Sothys’ advance research in cosmetogenomics (the science of genes - applied to cosmetic science) created their patented 1055 Boletus Extract, derived from a particular mushroom species called the Boletus edulis, which triggers genes to restore the skin’s ability to rehydrate itself. This seemed like a treatment made specifically for me, with my less than ideal lifestyle and dietary habits!

Angelface Aesthetics is tucked away in one of Singapore’s busy heartland shopping districts, the Tanjong Pagar Plaza, which conveniently is just a short walk away from the local MRT train station. What I personally like about the salon, is that the staff are genuinely lovely, welcoming and friendly. The tea they serve is different every day and is brewed in-house. While I waited for my appointment, I managed to skim through some current glossies while sipping away at their refreshing brew.

My facialist was very professional and a veritable fountain of knowledge; she even remembered me from my last visit and tutted that I had yet to take her advice of sleeping more than a few hours a night...
TREATMENT PROCEDURE:

Phase 1: Exfoliate
After removing make-up, Hydra-exfoliating Scrub is applied to the entire face and neck to remove impurities and restore suppleness.

Phase 2: Rehydrate
To rehydrate the skin after the exfoliation, Hydra-revealer Coin Mask is soaked in Ultra Hydration Nectar before being applied onto the face. It envelopes the skin in a veil of softness while my facialist conducted a deep smoothing massage movement on all the meridian points of my face.

Phase 3: Regenerate
With the Hydra-generating Modelling Cream, my facialist used her amazingly skilled hands to massage the product which would strengthen my skin’s barrier function while restoring comfort and revitalizing my skin.

Phase 4: Plump
After the soothing massage, the Ultra Hydration Mask mixed with the Ultra Hydration Nectar was applied to my face and neck to provide a “patch” effect which left my skin supple, radiant and regenerated.

Phase 5: Rebalance
Hydradvance™ Intensive Hydrating Serum & Cream was then applied to my face and neck, providing a healthy radiance and glow to my skin.

To be quite honest, with the hours most of us keep trying to make a living and also squeezing in some personal “me” time, dehydrated skin is one of the most common skin problem faced by many people today, regardless of age and skin type. Because dehydration results in premature aging, wrinkles, dull skin, pigmentation, sensitize skin, skin congestions, etc, it is crucial to make time to treat your skin in order to hold back, as far as humanly possible, the hands of time.

If you would like to try Sothys’ Hydradvance™ Cosmeceutic Treatment, do contact any of Sothys’ Contract Salons and Sothys’ Dealer Salons.

I would however, personally recommend Angelface Aesthetics at 1, Tanjong Pagar Plaza, #01-48, Tel: 6221 3723.

They have two branches, one in Raffles Place and one in Tanjong Pagar. I have been to both and the service is fantastic, whichever one you choose.

That's it from me this week. Ladies, I hope this gives you some food for thought - and gentlemen, how about treating the Lady in your life, to one of these treatments. I guarantee that neither her - or you, will regret it!

'Til next time...

The Lady

WELLNESS@LXG: KNEIPP WARMING MASSAGE OIL

In this day and age, you can't avoid becoming part of the Rat Race. You can choose to be a willing participant or not - but either way, you're in it for the long run...

Unfortunately a 5-day-a-week, 9-to-5 schedule is going to eventually lead to wear and tear in some form or another - no matter how well you look after yourself.

So now and again, its nice for even the most resilient of us to take a break and impart some care and attention to our weary muscles and bones...

There's no shame these days in borrowing a page or two out of our better-half's books and using the odd therapeutic remedy to ease the discomfort brought on by stress and fatigue.

Okay so most of us reach for the good old Medicated Balm to bring about some relief. But even the most effective balm is hardly a delight to the senses - watering the eyes, overpowering the nose and often leaving behind a greasy slick on the skin. And all thoughts of hot dates and romantic evenings out will be shattered as long as you are wandering around reeking like a chemical factory.

Which is why I am suggesting this very effective Warming Massage Oil from Kneipp...

...Warming Massage Oil with Arnica and Ginger to be exact. Fortified with the active ingredients of the Arnica Blossom, Ginger and Almond Oil, the oil provides a warming and moisturizing sensation: Ginger creates warming and soothing effects on the skin; and Almond Oil, known for its high content of Essential Fatty Acids and Vitamin E, helps regulate the skin's natural hydration.

But the special ingredient here is Arnica - a flower with some surprisingly potent effects. Arnica montana, found on mountainsides at 2,500-5,000 feet, has been revered for centuries for its miraculous benefits on sprains, bruises and wounds. In fact Kneipp's founder, Sebastian Kneipp held the plant in very high regard, often stating that, “Gold could not buy Arnica…”

After having recently used the massage oil during a long overseas flight, I can now appreciate the rich praise. I always have problems on long-haul flights - plane seats and foot-rests were never designed for anyone over 6ft in height, and after the 6 hour mark, I invariably begin to wish I could cut my damn legs off...

But this time a little birdy told me to use the oil on my legs - so just before I started getting restless on the plane, I rubbed a palm-full on my feet, forelegs and knee joints. The oil spreads and absorbs easily - and there's no residue left on the skin. The fragrance of ginger is pleasant and there is actually a warming sensation that quickly takes effect.

So the Warming Massage Oil actually does what it says on the container; I wouldn't give it a thumbs-up if it didn't.  My legs felt like they had been treated to a soothing massage, and the rest of my flight was stress-free.

Of course if you're more athletic than me and work out regularly or indulge in sports, then this Arnica-based concoction can really be put to work in an intensive, post-exercise massage - easing sore muscles, joints and ligaments.

But don't just take my word for it...

KNEIPP GIVEWAYS:

For all our readers in Singapore, I've got 3 top prizes worth $58.80 each comprising of a Set of Warming Massage Oil with Arnica and Ginger and Warming Foot Balm with Cardamom and Ginger from those nice people at Kneipp.

All you've got to do, is to Like the Kneipp Facebook Page, and then tell us here at the LXG, why you feel you deserve one of these Oil and Balm Sets.

Our Winners will be announced on the 19th June. But even if you're not one of our winners, we will also have 10 consolation prizes worth $20 each, up for grabs.

Good Health!
Mr. C.
