LADY@LXG: Just discovered the PERFECT lifting treatment for those with a zero tolerance for pain.

Scaredy-cats and those with a zero tolerance for pain can rejoice, cos this here is a treatment that literally has zero discomfort. In fact, its so relaxing, you can enjoy an hour-long nap, while the therapist runs the hand-piece of the Sygmalift, over and over your face, contouring and lifting your cheeks and jawline for 60-minutes, until you wake up, totally refreshed to much tighter, younger and brighter facial features!
So thats me posing away before my treatment

I was pleasantly surprised to see that the treatment actually worked. I started off being a bit skeptical (as one often is), cos if it has no pain, how effective can it really be right? Well I shall be the first to admit that I was wrong, cos the SygmaLift actually does work.

However, to maintain the results, you do need to go for three sessions, one per week, in order for your face to remain lifted and youthful for a period of between six-months to one-year. The results, like all treatments, depends on your lifestyle and body, so if you have a relatively crappy lifestyle like myself (think insomnia, diet fuelled by junk food, cake and candy), don't expect it to last the whole year.
The doctor and therapists were all really nice and friendly and super helpful. After bombarding the doctor with a barrage of questions, I was led into a room to have my “before” photos taken. After which my therapist Kristy cleansed the lower part of my face and applied some gel and commenced with the treatment.

Posing for a quick photo while bombarding the doctor with all my questions

Thirty-minutes later, one side of my face was much higher, my nasolabial folds (those ugly lines that run from your nose down to your mouth on either side of your face) were completely erased, almost like they had been ironed out, and my jawline was so much sharper.

After letting me admire myself for a while, Kristy then progressed to lift the other side of my face. Once the lifting was complete, she removed the gel, ran a cold laser over the treated area (no feeling of discomfort or anything whatsoever), toned my skin with deliciously scented rose toner, applied some moisturiser and viola, I looked so much younger than when I walked in an hour ago.

No nasolabial fold on the LEFT side of my face
If you notice that your jawline is starting to get a little less defined or your nasolabial folds are looking a little too pronounced or you simply want to give your face a bit of freshening-up and lifting, call Kowayo clinic, which is located at 1 Raffles link 01-03B, 1 Raffles Link (nearest MRT is City Hall) on 6884 4280 to find out more about the treatment.

Three sessions of SygmaLift, which is actually recommended or the results won't last you more than a month tops, would cost you $2,400 and last for between six months to a year, which if you break it down and do the math, is pretty decent.

The SygmaLift puts the old adage "no pain, no gain" to complete shame, cos in this case, you get all the gain minus any pain!

LIFESTYLE@LXG: Sherri discovers the best place to do last minute Christmas shopping!

The best place to do last minute Christmas shopping? Watsons of course!

It's that time of the year again and if you are still looking for the perfect gift for your loved ones, you are in big, big trouble. In case you haven’t noticed, Christmas is literally just around the corner! If you only have time to go to one place to buy everything for everybody, Watsons has you covered.
Not only is it a one stop shopping paradise that carries anything from toiletries, diffusers to chocolates, it is really accessible too. With a branch in almost every mall, it is great for busy people like you and me, who don’t have time to make it to town.
I have shortlisted a few items that you may want to zoom in on when you are there and have too many choices to make. ;)
Goodies for the grownups
Ok, this is not what you think it is. I know you are too lazy to think and just want to buy a box of chocolates as a gift.  But it is Christmas and buying regular chocolates will not cut it. Get the ones that will give you a kick. Yep, Watsons now carrys Cupido’s chocolates with liquor and cocktail fillings! They are really the best bitter-sweet festive treats, so yummy I can’t stop popping them myself! (from $4.90)
The all rounder
Need to buy in bulk, but no idea what to get? Well toiletries are no brainers because they are pretty safe gift choices for just about anybody and unisex gifts too. Pretty packaging and practical, what’s there not to like?
English brand Grace Cole gifts sets are beautifully presented and relatively inexpensive with prices starting from only $6.90.
The Fruit Works range divine duo’s packaging is bright and cheery. In the pack, you will find a small tube of shower gel and a nylon bath ball. ($6.90)
If you are looking for something more feminine, you can’t go wrong with the brand’s Romantic Rose range’s romantic trio. The lovely packaging with rose print is girlish and attractive. It includes a body wash, body cream and soap. ($10.90)
Baylis & Harding is another brand that offers pretty gift sets at Watsons. The brand’s Boudoire Collection Floral Bouquet and Garden House gift sets’ are full of English charm. Its limited edition Jojoba, silk & almond oil gift set’s packaging on the other hand, is classy and has just the right amount of glitter. (All $8.90 each)
Spreading love through the Air
Aromatherapy never went out of fashion. Grace Cole’s diffuser sets in Orchid and Sea Breeze are decorated with a watercolour print.  The former is pretty in romantic colours like pink purple and blue. The latter has splashes of green, blue and yellow.
Besides looking good and smelling nice, it also offers really good value at just $5.90 per set.
Good thing to have when hosting parties at home and good to bring along as a gift when attending one at a friend’s place.

LIFESTYLE@LXG: The LADY embraces pure hydration with Sothys Hydra3Ha

"Healthy hydrated cells are the key to ageless skin and a healthy body"

- Howard Murad

If you have read any of my posts, you will know that I have been having itchy and disgusting eczema on my face for the past two years (since I can’t seem to shut up about it). Anyway, the biggest problem with having eczema all over your face (apart from the itching, flaking skin and ugliness that is) is that it dries your skin almost to the very core, enhancing lines and wrinkles that no amount of moisturiser can heal.

This is where Sothys comes in. Recently, I decided to pop on down for the Sothys launch for their new Hydra3Ha cream and serum launch and it was love at first try. I personally love Sothys products, my must-have or I will die product is their Energising Night Cream which makes me look like I actually manage to sleep eight hours each night, when in fact I am lucky to clock around six or seven.

But unfortunately, it does not help with my eczema and in some cases can even aggravate it, which is why their new Hyaluronic Acid range is a godsend, as its very gentle and keeps my parched skin deeply hydrated.

The cream is lightly scented and does not aggravate sensitive skin. In fact, the next morning, the skin on my face feels plumper and more hydrated. So if you have dehydrated skin, you really must try this range as its gentle but deeply hydrating!

LADY@LXG: Is in love with Pureessentiel!

"Aromatherapy can help address the physical and emotional causes of pain"

I am a huge, huge fan of all things aromatherapy for a myriad of reasons, from personal to health. In fact, I even use pure essential oils (tea tree, lavender and peppermint - in case you were interested) to clean my house, as its non toxic and leaves the house smelling so lovely and the soothing lavender oil helps keep my hyper pup less crazy.

At the media launch recently, we were given three products out of their comprehensive range to try:

My favourite is the PURESSENTIEL PURIFYING Air Spray with 41 essential oils and  I was so excited to try it out that I started spritzing it around my house the moment I got home. Apart from the fact that it smells absolutely divine, it has helped  control my asthma and sinus from flaring up. So much so that I spray around the four corners of the room every night.

The spray is said to get rid of bacteria, viruses, microscopic fungi and unpleasant odours. It also limits the sources of allergies, ensuring you breathe in purer air. With 41 essential oils and bio-alcohol, this product is 100% natural and free of cancer causing synthetic perfume (seriously, synthetic scents are bad- google it if you don't believe me).

The Purifying Air Spray retails at $49.90 for 200 ML.
Something I can’t live without and use every night is the PURESSENTIEL MUSCLES & JOINTS Roller with 14 essential oils Ok so those of you who read my rants know that I have sensitive skin and am currently having an awful outbreak of eczema, which basically means that I can’t use almost anything. In fact, right now, I am even restricted from eating anything, which sucks with it being Christmas and all. The only benefit of restricting my chocolate and cake is the fact that I might actually lose some of that weight I have piled on. What I really like about this roller is that its tolerance tested, which essentially means that I can use it without my skin to breaking out in a rash. Its non photo-sensitizing, non photo-irritating, dye-and preservative-free, with no artificial fragrance and no mineral oils. The best part is that it smells so nice (not old-lady like at all) so much so that you can wear it when you go out (yeah its that nice!) and it works almost immediately, nixing pain upon contact almost. The Muscle and Joints Roller retails at $33.90.

PURESSENTIEL MUSCLES & JOINTS Soothing Balm + 14 essential oils This little pot of happiness is suitable for more intense pain and just like the roll-on, it smells really nice and botanical and will not leave you smelling like your granny, which means you can use it anytime you need it, even when you are going out.

The velvety balm helps relax muscle tensions with its 14 essential oils. Its also 100% natural, 100% pure and 100% active, has no colouring, mineral oils or preservatives and retails at $26.90.

The PUREESSENTIEL range is available exclusively at BEAUTY BY NATURE stores islandwide.

LIFESTYLE@LXG: Tries out the world's #1 foundation!

LIFESTYLE@LXG is honoured to introduce the New L’Oréal Paris True Match Liquid Foundation with micro-matching technology that matches all types of skin undertones, with six tailor-made shades for Asian skin.

Did you know that our skin undertones are determined by our genes and never change? Each complexion therefore has its own undertone: pink, neutral or golden.

To blend perfectly into the skin, L'Oréal Paris True Match has taken things a step further and developed a new formula that matches your skin tone as closely as possible for a flawless, tailor-made complexion for asian skin!
Expect flawless coverage with a blend of five unique pigments which allows this new improved range to precisely match the warm, cool or neutral undertones on any Asian skin.
Finally a foundation that makes it possible to obtain a natural, true-to-skin finish.

Because dehydrated skin can look really flaky and uneven under foundation, L’Oréal Paris has come up with a foundation that is as virtuous as a cream, with a combination of Glycerin, Vitamin E and Vitamin B5 for barely there comfort. It provides 24-hour hydration, leaving skin smoother, softer and more hydrated after use, reducing the appearance of imperfections while caring for your skin at the same time.

The new True Match range of foundation will be  available in six asian friendly shades and is priced at only $30.90 and is available at major drugstores, SASA, selected departmental stores and super and hypermarkets from October 2015.

LADY@LXG: I HEART my La Roche Posay sleeping mask

The best thing you can do for your skin is to keep it hydrated and protected from the sun. Its actually as simple as that.

I actually got this product from La Roche-Posay to feature in a magazine article I was working on, but unfortunately the direction of the story changed and I couldn't feature it.
However, since it was a trial and review article, I had to try the product, and decided to use it before bed. The next morning, I woke up to plumper, hydrated and very happy skin. Even my stupid eczema decided it was happy and didn't flare up for a change (hoorah!).
The Hydraphase Empowering Thermal Water Sleeping Mask is Infused with the highest concentration of La Roche-Posay Thermal Spring Water and Hyaluronic Acid, perfect for sensitive and dehydrated skin (like my own) to absorb and retain moisture, which helps to protect and strengthen the skin’s barrier function.
The mask's time-release hydration function, continuously quenches the skin when you most need it most, which is at night when the aircon is blasting away. The mask locks in the moisture within the skin all night long, restoring and preserving the skin's barrier.
Skin cells are strengthened and recover their anti-oxidant and anti-pollution defences to better fight daily aggressors like the haze and pollution.

I love this mask so much that I use it almost every night, especially when my eczema is acting up. I also plan to use this on the plane on my upcoming trip, to keep my skin hydrated and protected from the ultra drying airplane air (yay!).

The Hydraphase Empowering Thermal Water Sleeping Mask is $42.90 and is available at Derma Center (Westgate Mall), major pharmacies like Watsons, Guardian, Unity and selected hospital pharmacies.

LADY@LXG: The LADY discovers the ultimate matte lip colour!

"Of course true beauty comes from within, but lipstick just adds a little pizzaz...and who doesn't need a little pizzaz in their life?"

I personally find that its not easy to wear matte shades, be they lip colour or nail polish, as they can be quite unforgiving, highlighting every single flaw and sleight of hand, unlike their glossy counterparts.

However, having said that, I recently splurged on a matte lipstick in the most divine plum shade for almost $70, but  sadly it ended up making me look like an aging vampire.

Note to self, avoid matte lipsticks in very dark shades, as it ages, ironically due to the matte and drying effect of the lipstick.

This is why, I was initially skeptical about trying out another matte lip colour, but as always, I couldn't resist the lovely shades at the counter and the very, very attractive price.

What makes this lip colour even more cool is that it is not tested on animals, which means a lot to me personally, being a mummy to six fur-kids. It also has no fragrance, no carmine, and no paraben so I can wear it confidently, without worrying about damaging or discolouring my lips. I decided to play it safe this time and get a more natural shade and I must admit that I was so impressed that a product that was so wallet-friendly, could be so good in quality.

The balm was silky smooth against my lips thanks to the Calendula Flower Oil, White Mulberry Extract and Vitamin E, and the pigment was strong enough to give me a thick coat of colour after just one pass with the pencil. Although matte, its very silky and smooth and does not age me at all. Over all, I love the range of colours, the fact that its long lasting and that the price is so affordable that I could buy all six-shades without breaking the bank.

SILKYGIRL Matte Fever Lipcolor Balm retails for $13.90 at all major pharmacies, personal care and departmental stores and is available in six flattering shades: Flame, Desire, Charm, Siren, Passion and Vogue

LIFESTYLE@LXG: Beat the stink with Bioré Men's Deodorant Body Wash

Photo courtesy of: Daily Mail UK

Did you know that men sweat up to 50% more than women? Worse yet, when this sweat reacts with the bacteria and sebum present on the skin, it produces what we know as body odour.

Are you guilty of being a stinker?

Say goodbye to constant nagging from your lady friend about your pong with this trio of life saving deo body washes. Thanks to Japanese innovation and creativity, Men's Bioré has come up with this special range, created specifically for men.

Engineered for optimum cleansing of dirt, sebum and sweat from pores, this shower gel helps to minimise the remnants of dirt left on the skin from deteriorating to cause body odour. It contains a strong anti-bacterial formula and deodorising ingredient to neutralise any odour produced, resulting in a lasting, deep down and refreshing clean feel without drying out your skin.

This range comes in - Fresh Mint Deodorant Body Wash, Mild Soap Deodorant Body Wash and Cool Gel Deodorant Body Wash, all of which smell wonderful and are formulated with cooling menthol, for a refreshing tingly feeling.
The Men’s Bioré Deodorant Body Wash range (440ml) retails at $6.95 and is available in NTUC Fairprice, Watsons and Guardian.

FILM@LXG: These Final Hours

(from our resident reviewer two_senser)

How would you spend your Last Day on Earth?

This is the question posed by These Final Hours. It's a question that's been asked many times before. Celluloid has placed the Earth and the Human Race in many apocalyptic scenarios, from alien invasions to climatic catastrophes, to viral pandemics. Most of these have been huge, effects-driven blockbusters - and although the Apocalypse told on such a grand-scale certainly draws the crowds - it's the smaller, more intimate stories that leave a lasting mental impression, and lead you to really ponder the question, "What If?"
Set in Perth, Australia, we quickly learn that this is the final day on Earth and that the Western Australian city only has 12 hours left before the inevitable downfall that has already taken down Europe, Canada and a large chunk of the rest of the world.

We meet the self-absorbed James (a believable and gritty performance by Nathan Phillips) as he is rushing off to his mate’s massive house party to drink his sorrows away and forget about the looming end of life as we know it. It’s a dark, foreboding urban landscape that James traverses - as society falls apart at the seams, and the city's inhabitants cope with the impending disaster in their own, often disturbing and macabre ways.

Unforeseen events then place James in situations where he is forced to choose between his own self-destructive resolution and the last shreds of humanity that are buried away, deep within him.

What is most disturbing about this movie, and the reason why it works so well, is that the scenarios presented are entirely plausible. We all like to think of ourselves as decent, civilized human beings. But when presented with just 12 hours to live; and a fate we simply cannot escape - would it be so difficult to slip from the shackles of humanity and rapidly descend into a much darker state of consciousness?

Adding to a growing list of recent explorations into the Apocalypse by way of Antipodean directors and storylines, (see The Rover and the upcoming Mad Max reboot), director Zak Hilditch takes us on a journey without destination, although we inevitably, unequivocally know where we're headed...

LADY@LXG: My eyebrow touch up at Allure Beauty

For those of you who followed my latest eyebrow embroidery session at Allure Beauty's newly renovated outlet At Bukit Batok in August this year, you would know that I had my touchup due this month. For those of you who missed my post, you can read about it here.
Unfortunately, due to work commitments, I couldn't make it there as planned in September, instead, I found myself making my way to their Tiong Bahru outlet last week (almost two months since my first treatment) to get my brows touched up. As soon as I stepped into the cool confines of Allure Beauty, I was greeted with a big smile and a cooling cup of ginseng tea. A therapist then applied numbing cream, topped up my cup of tea and left me to de-stress.

After around 30 minutes when the numbing cream had taken effect and I was feeling suitably numb around the brow area, my original therapist examined my brows and admired the fact that two months after the first drawing, it was still looking awesome, thanks to me diligently taking care of it as instructed!
My therapist then touched up my brows, drawing in individual hairs using a hand-held eyebrow embroidery tool, similar to a thick pen. This detail-oriented process is carried out to match the natural growth and direction of my own eyebrows and fill in any gaps and darken any areas that had lightened. The procedure was very fast and painless. In around just 20 minutes I was done.
Despite the painless procedure, my therapist handed me a tube of antiseptic cream to be applied five times a day for a week, to prevent infection as the process involves the penetration of colour into the top layer of the skin. You will also be handed a list of care-instructions that I advise you to follow as much as possible, if you want your brows to last. Try and avoid wetting the brows for the first week - and facials are a no-no during this crucial period as well. Based on my previous experience, I expect my brows to last between 18 to 24 months!

LIFESTYLE@LXG: Jyunka launches TWO new products!

We at LXG are huge fans of Jyunka and did a happy dance when Jyunka sent us two of their latest launches; Jyunka 5-in-1 Gel Cleanser and the JYUNKA Extreme Hydrant Serum

JYUNKA 5-in-1 Gel Cleanser goes beyond just cleansing your skin. We should know, we all got a chance to try it out!

Enriched with H complex, it maintains harmony in the skin’s hydrous equilibrium while tackling skin sensitivity, perfect for those of us with sensitive skin or post laser treatment.

This all-rounder is pH balanced, removes all traces of makeup (hoorah no double cleansing required!) and impurities, leaving your face looking and feeling so fresh and and clean.

Do we love it, hell yeah!

Extreme Hydrant Serum We all know that hydration is crucial to keep skin looking and feeling youthful and healthy. Tiredness, aging and sensitivity are often magnified due to insufficient moisture.

Environmental factors, a lousy skin care regime, aging and insufficient sleep can cause a lack of hydration in the skin. The Extreme Hydrant Serum immerses your skin in an aqueous environment and locks the moisture in the upper epidermis to ensure optimal cellular activity.

A special Visco-Elastic Complex using high molecular weight proteins, provides gentle nourishment while forming a protective layer, tightening pores and improving skin firmness.

The LADY@LXG is currently using this twice a day and is in love! (this is all well and good, but not letting us use more than 1 pump is just mean!)

LIFESTYLE@LXG: Chen Chen tries the Thalasso facial at Immortelle Atelier!

Many people always stare at me in disbelief when I tell them my beauty routine consists only of cleansing and moisturizing. Period. Yes, that’s how lazy I am when it comes my skin care. I find it chore to even slap on sunscreen before heading out, let alone go for a facial.

So when my girlfriend raved to me about this really fabulous facial she’d had I just brushed it aside. Until I checked myself out in the mirror one day and had the shock of my life – tiny bumps lined my forehead, my cheeks were dehydrated and I looked like l’ve been punched in the eyes. Horrified by this discovery I called  my girlfriend up and made her book me an appointment with her facialist, pronto.

And thats how I found myself at Immortelle Aterlier, two days later.
The salon, although small and cozy, pays great attention to ensuring that customers get only the best. The bed linen is super luxe and so is the robe. The attention to detail is impressive!

After a detailed skin assessment, my beauty therapist recommended two treatments for me – the Thalasso Facial and Meridian Eyecare Treatment.

The first is designed to rejuvenate tired skin and comprises of an active ingredient specifically tailored for my skin type. It is then followed by a micro-algae mask that helps to rebalance and delivers long-lasting hydration deep into the skin. The latter incorporates the “Guasha” method (a form of traditional Chinese therapy), and uses a smooth bone to apply pressure and relax the eye area. Total bliss!! You MUST try their eye treatment and the best part?its only $48 by itself!

I must say that the treatments felt really luxurious and pampering! My therapist's masterful massage strokes put me in a totally relaxed, almost meditative state, and I loved the rich and soothing scents of the Maria Galland products used.

More importantly, my skin felt much smoother and hydrated, and I no longer look like Kungfu Panda!

To try out the treatments for yourself, visit Immortelle Atelier at 101 Thomson Road, United Square Shopping Mall #02-08B. Tel: 6259 9001

STYLE@LXG: Spike it the way you like it with Stage Works Spiky Booster

This April Shiseido Professional launched its new hairstyling product SPIKYBOOSTER from its styling line STAGE WORKS, a line specifically developed for salon stylists and fashion and beauty-conscious women.

The perfect tool for creating hairstyles without compromising on the lightweight feel of clean hair, SPIKY BOOSTER works by taking advantage of the technologies and ingredients available only from STAGE WORKS, so that it can satisfy even male customers with short hair (that would be us at LXG). One of this new styling product’s attractions is its outstanding wearability that makes it possible to keep the created hairstyle all day long.

In order to achieve the most powerful hair-setting capability, Spiky Booster has been formulated with a high concentration of finely granulated wax. In fact, it contains the largest amounts of wax ingredients among all the STAGE WORKS products, while still managing to have a readily spreadable, easy-to-use texture that does not stiffen.

Formulated with volume-making powder in addition to wax ingredients, its hair-setting capability has been enhanced without the sticky feel that we usually expect from most wax based products!

Another big selling point to the product (in our opinion as wax using short haired men) is its Humidity Control Polymer which prevents our hairstyle from going flat when faced with high levels of humidity or water, a definite issue we face here in humid and monsoonal Singapore!

Spiky Booster retails here in Singapore at $30
