Lifestyle@LXG: EHA Skincare opens its first store at Shaw Centre!

Fans of EHA Skincare will be ecstatic to know that this cult skincare brand has finally opened its very own stand-alone store at Shaw Centre in Orchard. With products from Japan, US and France, this comprehensive range of skincare is specially formulated for the humidity of Asia and sensitive Asian skin.

As most of our regular readers would know, LXG is a blog made up of a number of writers and contributors from the media industry and most of us religiously use products from EHA Skincare.

Their range of Japan-made skincare is our favourite. The range is super light-weight and perfectly suited for Singapore's humid weather.

EHA Skincare is also the only brand that carries a 24-Hr sunscreen that keeps skin protected the whole day long, making no need for reapplication and is a 'can't leave home without it' product of LADY@LXG.

The official opening of the Skincare centre which was last Friday on the 6th of February, was amazing! It was like a big party full of happy and beautiful people. Imagine lots of laughter, great company, great food and amazing products to play with.

The staff were super-knowledgable and helped each guest select the right products for their skin type and condition. Oh, did we mention that we each got $150 EHA Skincare dollars to spend at the store? Oh yeah we did! After much dithering, we finally settled on their collagen pills which we had never tried before and were curious to give a go.

If you are looking for a range of skincare that is light and suitable for our humid weather, visit EHA Skincare. The staff are super lovely and will help you find the right product for your skin type and need.

EHA Skincare products are available exclusively at EHA Skincare, which is located at 1 Scotts Road, Shaw Centre # 03-28. Singapore 228208

LIFESTYLE@LXG: It's Pure Hair Indulgence when Kishani Discovers the Creambath!

The Hair Creambath treatment at Immortelle Atelier was pure bliss for me the exhausted traveller, having spent two days back to back taking in the sights, sounds and shopping of Singapore; you could say I was rather exhausted, when my friend raved about their Hair Creambath, I just had to give it a go (its only $55!!!) and OMG it was a pleasurable moment that allowed me to survive the rest of my holiday!

John the head stylist started my treatment off by washing my hair with a caviar based shampoo, which smelled ever so good. Btw ever heard of water conservation while shampooing, well i don’t think he used more than three squirts of water on my head to lather the shampoo, quite a fascinating tactic, recommended to all stylists! From there I was treated to a divine head massage while he washed away the shampoo. There after John’s magic hands worked-in a cooling menthol Creambath with a thirty-minute head massage, at the end of which he had to wake me up, that’s how calming it was (thank goodness I managed to snap at least one photo before I nodded off).

I was informed by John that the most effective way to maintain the good health of your hair and scalp was to schedule in a Creambath as often as possible.

I totally swear that if I lived in Singapore, I would have one at least once a week! Fun fact did you know that the scalp determines how great your hair looks!

Note this treatment will definitely leave your hair shiny, healthy and easy to manage and ONLY costs $55!

Post the indulgent massage my hair was wrapped for a few further minutes where the product is allowed to penetrate into the scalp, and then he continued with a relaxing shoulder and neck massage which was performed while the treatment took effect. OMG this was amaaaazing! The man has magical hands or something. He kneaded away all my stress and knots and left me wobbly as a Jello!

While my scalp was being pampered, my tired from shopping hands were being moisturized and massaged and then they were put into a pair of gloves filled Maria Galland Cocoon mask and left to absorb for about ten minutes and then washed off, leaving me with baby-soft hands!

After about forty minutes of the cooling mint Creambath that had been absorbed into my tired head my hair was rinsed and conditioned with a Caviar conditioner, where again i was spoilt with a short but ever so loved massage, after which my hair was blown and styled into a swishy do that left me looking and smelling so awesome!

The Cream Bath at Immortelle Atelier is a definite cost effective spoiler for anyone looking for some timeout in the hustle and bustle of Singapore holiday.

Priced between S$55 and S$60 it is affordable and definitely a highlight of my holiday. I love you Immortelle Atelier and will be back again soon!

THELADY@LXG: The LADY tries her first meal replacement!

 Day 1 - Weight: 56 kg
Because this is my first time taking a meal replacement of any sort, I sort of didn’t know what to expect, but I didn’t expect it to be so delicious! It comes in four flavours and I was given seven days worth of a mix of them to try.

Today I had strawberry with half a glass of full cream milk (sorry but skim milk just tastes so yucky) and half a glass of iced water and oooh it was so delicious that I could have a few more.

The strawberry flavor is formulated with freeze-dried Korean Strawberry extract, naturally sourced Korean rice and soy based and is suitable for lactose intolerant and vegetarians. It also has some bits of dried strawberry and a few seeds and I drank/ate them all. Its 6.30PM now, lets see how long I can last before getting hungry. Super excited to see the results of this one week trial/challenge!

Ok by 8PM I was quite hungry so I ate a persimmon and a handful of almonds, pecans and wall nuts. By 9PM I needed more food, so I had a boiled egg and a half glass of milk after which I was satiated until bed time which was at 1AM. Each sachet has only 150 calories, so I don’t blame it for not keeping me full until bed time. To be fair, it must be said that I took the sachet post workout, so I had already worked up quite a hunger, plus I am used to consuming many, many (think at least 800 to a 1000) more calories per meal.

Day 2 - Weight: 55 kg
I am super happy to have lost one-kilo. I know its most likely water weight, but it made me smile nonetheless. Today I had the chocolate flavor and tried to drink it a bit later in the day, so instead of 6.30, I stuffed my face with nuts and a banana and guzzled it at 7.30PM.  By 9PM I felt a bit faint so had another boiled egg (yes I have a thing for boiled eggs). The chocolate flavour is made using the best Valrhona Chocolate extract, filled with yummy chocolate bits and US milk protein. I decided to make it with with full cream milk and it was so tasty but strawberry is still my current favourite!

Day 3 - Weight: 55 kg
Today I had the Grains Flavor, which is formulated with grains, chia seeds, spirulina extract, naturally sourced Korean rice and US milk protein. and it was really tasty.

I decided to use full cream milk instead of the half water / half milk mixture of day 1 and 2.

But I still got hungry after a couple of hours and had to eat two boiled eggs, almonds and some yoghurt and another glass of milk.

Day 4 - Weight: 55 kg
I decided to go with the Matcha flavour today, and to be quite frank, expected it to be my least favourite, so I was quite surprise by the fact that it was really yummy! Matcha Flavor is formulated with Japanese Green Tea extract, naturally sourced Korean rice and soy based is suitable for lactose intolerant and vegetarians. This basically means, that every single flavour is delicious, although Strawberry is still my favourite. Today I decided to use it as a pre-workout drink and it did a fabulous job keeping me focussed on my workout and not on what I would eat next. It also stopped me from gorging as soon as I walked through my door and actually helped keep me satiated until dinner.

Days 5, 6 and 7 - Weight: 55 kg
I have now decided to use this as a pre-workout drink and it seriously helps keep me energized and focused and being only 150 calories, it is easily burned in under an hour.

Its been about a month since I took the meal replacement and I must say that after just seven days and eating almost as much as normal, and basically using Ulti Trim as more of a pre-work out drink, I still not just managed to lose a kilo, but actually maintain the loss, which is absolutely fabulous! Does this work? I think it does. And if I had a stronger will and stuck to a strict diet, I could have lost so much more.
Ulti Trim™ is formulated and recommended as a meal replacement to be used at the very most twice a day.  As delish as it is, Ulti Trim™ should not be taken as a sole source of nutrition to replace all three daily meals and if you want to lose weight healthily, it is still important to consume at least one well-balanced solid meal and shift your butt and exercise for at least 30-45 minutes a day.

For people on long-term medication / diet allergies / pregnant / on lactation; please seek proper medical advice before taking any meal replacement / supplements.

Each box of Ulti Trim™ contains 7 sachets for one week’s consumption, and retails
For $48 a box and is available at:

LADY@LXG: Introducing Sothys Sun Protection with Brightening Care

I actually received this fabulous product a few months ago, but because I very cleverly got eczema all over my face, I was unable to use anything, including sunscreen, which made me very paranoid, because if you have been following my inconsistent ranting, you would know that I absolutely adore sunscreen and feel naked, not to mention unprotected, without it.
While most of my girlfriends spend hundreds of dollars on anti-aging skin care, my weapon against  the signs of premature aging is a good tube of sunscreen.

When I say “good” I mean that it should be from a brand that I trust to take care of my skin, and I am willing to pay for that protection, rather than to use some generic drug store brand that may not give me the protection that I require.
I have been a huge fan of Sothys since I started working in magazines almost 14 years ago. I trust the brand and have great confidence in their products.

In fact, one of my absolute favourite night creams is their Energizing Night Cream Just one dab on a zit and its gone the next morning and I wake up looking refreshed even though I would have only clocked in around five-to-six hours of zzzz.

SOTHYS [W.]+ Ultra-protective Sun Shield SPF 50 not only shields your skin from the three main causes of premature aging– UVA, UVB and Infrared Radiation (IR), it also prevents pigmentation by reducing melanin synthesis.

This is definitely a MUST-HAVE for all who aim for translucent and radiant complexions!

With Calcified Algae (Sea Origin), which is rich in minerals to fight against Infrared Radiation and Chemical Filters to ensure a broad spectrum of protection against UVA & UVB radiation. Sunflower Extract acts as an anti-oxidant to reduce the spread of free radicals generated by UVA, UVB and IR. It helps reduce the number of sunburn cells up to 54%.  Celligent™ a plant-based ingredient with synergistic combination of active molecules from rice, rosemary, sugar beet and sugar cane, protects epidermal stem cells from free radicals.

The [W.]™+ Complex which consist of Azeloglycine + vitamin PP + vectorized and stabilized vitamin C helps to optimize cell renewal, reduce melanin synthesis, limit melanin transfer and create an equilibrium between light scattering and reflection.

And for all you sticky sunscreen haters, the Galenic Formulation in this product helps for quick penetration without the sticky and dehydrated touch we have come to associate with regular sunscreens. This means it goes on smoothly without any icky after-feel!

How do I apply it?
Simply apply to your face and neck before sun exposure. Reapply frequently during sun exposure. Avoid eye contour and contact with clothes. Personally I like to tap my sunscreen in, to ensure thorough coverage.

This wonder in a tube retails at only $119 (30 ml) and is available at appointed SOTHYS Salons.

LADY@LXG: Firm, tone and Lift features with ATACHE Lift Therapy

I have spent most of my life as a editor / writer having facials and trying out a variety of skin care products and services. And I can tell you that it is not often that I come across a treatment that makes me sit up, glance at my reflection and think; ‘OMG! this actually works!’.

This was my first experience with ATACHE and I decided to - like any ex-beauty editor worth her salt - to find out more about the brand. The skin care brand, based in Alicante, Spain was developed by the pharmaceutical group ASAC PHARMA. The group has more than 30 years experience in the pharmaceutical field, with a strategic focus on Dermatology and allergies.

Unlike many major scientific skin care lines, their main target is the research and investigation of active ingredients originating from European and American medicinal plants. In fact, because ASAC owns the cultivation fields in Central America, it allows for a tight control on quality plants, from seeding, harvesting, processing of extracts, and manufacturing the finished product. However, as a true blue, petition signing and PETA supporting animal lover, the most important point to me is that they do not experiment on animals, and actually strive to preserve the environment throughout their manufacturing and packaging process. Way to go ATACHE!
The treatment I was lucky enough to try, Lift Therapy is a completely manual treatment that works to stimulate, reactivate and induce our body's own natural firming properties in achieving skin lifting to improve skin firmness and helping to densify skin texture.

The treatment uses a revolutionary formulation of hyaluronic acid soya isoflavones coupled with a unique and extremely therapeutic firming, lifting massage technique that actually works, to lift up your facial contours and smooth out fine lines around the neck.

Lift Therapy acts by reactivating and balancing the cellular metabolism and the synthesis of proteins. It moisturizes and reinforces the skin’s capacity to retain water. It also prevents and delays the aging of the cutis and protects and firms the outline of the face helping to reduce wrinkles.

Would I do this treatment or any ATACHE treatment again? Definitely! My first experience was a huge success and I believe any future treatments offered by ATACHE would be just as effective!

FILM@LXG: These Final Hours

(from our resident reviewer two_senser)

How would you spend your Last Day on Earth?

This is the question posed by These Final Hours. It's a question that's been asked many times before. Celluloid has placed the Earth and the Human Race in many apocalyptic scenarios, from alien invasions to climatic catastrophes, to viral pandemics. Most of these have been huge, effects-driven blockbusters - and although the Apocalypse told on such a grand-scale certainly draws the crowds - it's the smaller, more intimate stories that leave a lasting mental impression, and lead you to really ponder the question, "What If?"
Set in Perth, Australia, we quickly learn that this is the final day on Earth and that the Western Australian city only has 12 hours left before the inevitable downfall that has already taken down Europe, Canada and a large chunk of the rest of the world.

We meet the self-absorbed James (a believable and gritty performance by Nathan Phillips) as he is rushing off to his mate’s massive house party to drink his sorrows away and forget about the looming end of life as we know it. It’s a dark, foreboding urban landscape that James traverses - as society falls apart at the seams, and the city's inhabitants cope with the impending disaster in their own, often disturbing and macabre ways.

Unforeseen events then place James in situations where he is forced to choose between his own self-destructive resolution and the last shreds of humanity that are buried away, deep within him.

What is most disturbing about this movie, and the reason why it works so well, is that the scenarios presented are entirely plausible. We all like to think of ourselves as decent, civilized human beings. But when presented with just 12 hours to live; and a fate we simply cannot escape - would it be so difficult to slip from the shackles of humanity and rapidly descend into a much darker state of consciousness?

Adding to a growing list of recent explorations into the Apocalypse by way of Antipodean directors and storylines, (see The Rover and the upcoming Mad Max reboot), director Zak Hilditch takes us on a journey without destination, although we inevitably, unequivocally know where we're headed...

LIFESTYLE@LXG: Susan pampers herself at Immortelle Atelier

I gave birth to a beautiful baby girl almost five months ago. Motherhood is a completely life changing experience and as a new mother, I barely had any time to take care of myself. As much as I love spending time with my new baby, the sleepless nights have taken a toll on my complexion and hair.

That’s why I was ecstatic when I was offered to try out the Cryolift Facial Treament with Guasha Eye Treatment and a hair Cream Bath treatment at Immortelle Atelier in their spanking-new outlet in United Square, which is centrally located near Novena MRT station.

Immortelle Atelier is a one stop venue for all your facial, make-up, styling and hair treatment needs.

For busy individuals and mother's who have dropped their kids off at class and have some time to kill, they offer quick 45-minute facial and hair treatments that are a wonderful treat and should definitely be tried.
After a quick assessment of my skin condition, my therapist led me into the cozy treatment room at the back of the salon to change and get ready for my treatment. I loved that their robe was so soft and plush and smelled so nice. For me, its the little extra touches like these that make the experience so special.

She started off with a relaxing lavender aromatherapy massage to help me unwind. She then proceeded to deep cleanse my face using Maria Galland skin care products. I love it that they only use very high-quality skincare products such as Maria Galland and Jyunka – this shows the length that Immortelle Atelier goes to in order to provide the best facial experience to their clients.

After the deep cleansing procedure, Judy proceeded with the Guasha Eye Massage. Guasha is a traditional Chinese medical therapy using a spoon-like bone to massage the skin and the bones to help improve blood circulation and drain toxins. I must say this was my favorite part of the whole treatment session! As a new mother experiencing sleepless nights, I honestly thought that I would permanently have to sport massive eye bags, but after Judy’s skillful guasha massage around my tired eyes, I could immediately feel that my eye bags were less pronounced and I felt much better overall.

As I opted for the Cryolift Facial Treatment, Judy applied the Skin Perfusion Gel and Serum containing more than 12 vitamins, 24 amino acids and various minerals and anti-oxidants onto my skin. She then proceeded to use the state-of-the-art Filorga cryolift probe around my face. The probe helps bring the skin down to -18 degree Celsius, stimulating collagen production under the skin. The treatment works by dramatically improving micro blood flow in the skin, reversing the aging process.

The whole facial treatment took about two hours – complete with skin extraction, eyebrow trimming and a relaxing head and shoulder massage. To finish off, she applied a hydrating mask onto my face and a cocoon mask for my eyes. The cocoon mask is unique in that it helps stimulate skin metabolism to fight the destructive effect of stress on the skin.

At the end of the session, I could feel that it helped my fatigued skin regain its lost radiance and tautness. The best thing? the products used are safe for breastfeeding mothers and even pregnant women!
After my relaxing facial, I was treated to a Hair Cream Bath session to help restore the shine back to my dull hair. Hair Cream Bath treatment is a highly popular hair pampering experience in Indonesia, where I grew up, so I am glad to re-discover this treatment here in Singapore at Immortelle Atelier. I have been experiencing severe post-partum hair loss so I opted for the “Cooling” cream bath treatment. The treatment lasted for 45 minutes and started off with a hair wash, followed by the application of the cream of your choice, a relaxing head and shoulder massage, a rinse and a final blow-dry. My hair smelled so good and felt so soft after all the pampering. All in all, two thumbs up for my experience at Immortelle Atelier. I will definitely come back for more!
